Satpura National Park, being part of a unique ecosystem, is very rich in biodiversity. The animals here comprise of tiger, leopard, sambar, chital, Bhedki, nilgai, four-horned antelope, chinkara, bison (gour), wild boar, wild dog, bear, black buck, fox, porcupine, flying squirrel, mouse deer, Indian giant squirrel, etc. There are a variety of birds. Hornbills and peafowl are common birds found here.
Just like any other national parks of Madhya Pradesh, Jungle Safari system of Satpura National Park is similar. Here 4-wheel driven vehicles (petrol/diesel) are used to park-safari. Here no vehicle of more that 5-years old is allowed to go for park-safari. Park entrance charges and guide fee is similar to any other national park of Madhya Pradesh. Jeeps are generally hired from market in Pachmarhi or through hotels.
This National Park is extremely rocky and it is bestowed with sandstone peaks, narrow gorges, and ravines. Being a part of a unique ecosystem, Satpura National Park is very rich in biodiversity and it houses some of the rare species of the animal kingdom and a large verity of birds.
Thick woody forest, high peaks, and rich collection of animal and bird species Satpura National Park offers most diverse attractions. Jeep safari and boat ride along the reservoir banks to explore the huge park. Besides, elephant safari is also an excellent way to experience the jungle.
Best time to visit is during the months of November to March and during monsoons the park remains closed (tentatively June to October).
Wildlife - The jungle has tigers, panthers, beer, deer, bison, wide variety of birds etc. Tigers have retreated deeper in the forest though. The terrain of the national park is extremely rugged and consists of fascinating deep valleys, sandstone peaks, narrow gorges, rivulets, waterfalls, thickly dense green forest of Sal and other medicinal herbs and Tawa’s vast reservoir. Un-even altitude ranges from 290m. to 1352 m. Highest peak of national park is in Satpura National Park i.e. Dhoopgarh at an altitude of 4500 feets(1400 m.). As it is the highest peak of Madhya Pradesh, sunlight reaches this peak earlier than anyother landscape of Madhya Pradesh.
